Collection: Books: Indigenous & Native Culture
The lands that we now call Los Padres National Forest and Carrizo Plain National Monument are the ancestral lands of the Chumash, the Yokuts, the Tataviam, the Salinan, the Esselen, and the Ohlone people. These lands remain important to many tribes as an integral part of their communities, but for generations, federal policies assimilated and displaced Native people and eradicated their cultures. This collection celebrates Native people, their resilience, perseverance, and strength, and the lands that have sustained them for millennia.
